Stability of Natural Fractures under Disturbance of Hydraulic Fractures in Shale Reservoirs

چکیده
Activating the natural fracture (NF) during hydraulic (HF) propagation is a dominant factor for forming complex network in shale reservoirs. On basis of Renshaw and Pollard’s criterion intersection, we simulate NF stability under dynamic disturbance HF reservoirs with cohesive zone model ABAQUS analyze effects various factors on stability. The results show that activation NFs fracturing controlled by length, density, intersection angle between HF, horizontal principal stress difference, frac fluid viscosity, injection rate. During propagation, shorter than 0.2 m less likely to be activated, those longer 0.5 are more activated. As density increases, not all at an approach larger 10° activated low cannot when difference higher 10 MPa. Both viscosity rate have NFs, provide reference stimulation

The Shear Mechanisms of Natural Fractures during the Hydraulic Stimulation of Shale Gas Reservoirs
The shearing of natural fractures is important in the permeability enhancement of shale gas reservoirs during hydraulic fracturing treatment. In this work, the shearing mechanisms of natural fractures are analyzed using a newly proposed numerical model based on the displacement discontinuities method. The fluid-rock coupling system of the model is carefully designed to calculate the shearing of...
متن کاملModeling Ithaca’s natural hydraulic fractures
Joints within the Catskill Delta complex are believed to be natural hydraulic fractures and abundant indirect evidence supports this claim. The indirect evidence is based on many observations of joint surface morphology and joint spacing among other features. The Alleghanian orogeny left a unique imprint on the joint surfaces also, indicating a rotating horizontal compressive stress field. Nume...
متن کاملPerformance Model for Vertical Wells with Multi-stage Horizontal Hydraulic Fractures in Water Flooded Multilayer Reservoirs
For the characteristics of horizontal fractures in shallow low-permeability oil layers after hydraulic fracturing in multilayer reservoirs, horizontal fractures are taken equivalent to an elliptical cylinder with the reservoir thickness using the equivalent permeability model; then, upon the elliptic seepage theory, the seepage field which has led by a vertical well with horizontal fractures is...
متن کاملThe Role of Natural Fractures in Shale Gas Production
Natural fractures seem to be ubiquitous in shale gas plays. It is often said that their presence is one of the most critical factors in defining an economic or prospective shale gas play. Many investigators have presumed that open natural fractures are critical to gas production from deeper plays such as the Barnett, as they are for shallower gas shales such as the Dev‐ onian shales of the nort...
متن کاملEffect of Hydraulic Fracture on the Fractured Reservoir Based on the Connection with Natural Fractures
Hydraulic fracturing in the fractured reservoirs plays a significant impact on the production rate. In this study, the hydrostatic condition is taken into account, the hydraulic fracturing operation was applied in every direction usinga written distinct element code. In each direction the hydraulic fracture is applied with different lengths and in each level the amount of production is predicte...
